1995 Rugby World Cup

The 1995 Rugby World Cup was the 3rd Rugby World Cup to be held. It was hosted by South Africa. There were 16 teams participating, playing in 4 pools of 4 teams. The eight quarter-finalists from the 1991 RWC automatically qualified, along with South Africa as host (SA had not participated at a RWC before this tournament). The other 7 teams qualified through regional qualifying tournaments. Ivory Coast appeared for the first time at RWC

Points were awarded as:

  • 3 for a win
  • 2 for a draw
  • 1 for playing
