The 2011 Rugby World Cup was the 7th Rugby World Cup to be held. It was held in New Zealand. There were 20 teams participating, with Russia being at the tournament for the first time. Twelve teams qualified by virtue of coming in the top 3 of their pool at the 2007 RWC with the rest of the teams going through regional qualifying tournaments.
