In 2021, the competition returned to the usual dates after the disruptions of the previous year due to COVID-19. The 7 teams play the other teams twice, home and away, followed by the top 4 teams going through to the play-offs with semi-finals and a final. There will be in place some COVID-19 regulations: If a match cannot take place and no acceptable time to reschedule can be found the match will be declared a 0-0 draw. 4 points will be awarded to the team NOT the cause of the cancellation. If both teams are unable to play then 2 points will go to each team. |

The Free State Cheetahs v Blue Bulls match was cancelled after the Cheetahs could not field a team due to COVID-19 issues. The match was recorded as a 0-0 draw and 4 points were awarded to the Blue Bulls.
The Sharks v Golden Lions match was cancelled after the Sharks were asked to play the B & I Lions for a second time. This followed the Bulls being unable to play their scheduled match due to COVID-19 issues.
The matches between the Sharks & Pumas and between Golden Lions & Free State Cheetahs were cancelled due to civil unrest in the areas they were to be played in. The match between the Griquas and the Blue Bulls was cancelled after the Bulls were expected to play a South Africa 'A' team. This was to provide some game time to the national side in the lead up to the series against the B & I Lions. Games were recorded as 0-0 draws and teams were awarded 4 points each.
