2024 EPCR Challenge Cup Results

The 2024 European Rugby Challenge Cup will be the 9th season of the second tier club rugby competition in Europe. It replaced the Amlin Cup.

Sixteen clubs qualified from the URC and domestic competitions, plus the Toyota Cheetahs and the Black Lion who were invited to take part.

The 18 teams playing in 3 pools of 6 teams each. Teams play the other teams in their pool that are not from the same league, with the exception of the URC teams that may be in the same pool.

The top 4 teams from each pool will then combine with 4 teams from the European Rugby Champions Cup to play a round of 16. This will be a knock-out format down to a finals series.

World Rugby announced that from January 1 2025, 4 new Global Law Trials would be introduced. They would be used in the European Rugby Challenge Cup after the first two rounds. The rules were:

  • 60-second conversion limit to align with penalties.
  • 30-second setup for lineouts will match time for scrums.
  • Play-on rule in uncontested lineouts when the throw is not straight.
  • Scrum-half protection during scrums, rucks, and mauls.
