The Pacific Nations Cup is a rugby competition currently played for by Pacific rugby nations. It has been in existence since 2006. There have been a number of different teams from around the Pacific area involved over the years. Usually teams have played each other once with the winner being the team at the top of the table after the completion of the games. Changes have occured, as detailed below, in some of the years. Here are the results from the latest competition and all the previous years. |
In 2024 there were 6 teams involved with Canada and USA rejoining the competition. Teams played in two pools with the best 2 in each pool going through to semi-finals. The other two teams played off for 5th & 6th places.

A different format was used in which Georgia joined the competition and the games were played in the June International window. Each team played twice and the winner would be the team with the most competition points at the end of the matches.
This format was introduced by World Rugby as a high performance preparation ahead of the RWC 2019.

2017 was the second year of a 3 team format that also formed part of the qualification for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. The teams play each other once. The top two teams, on aggregate over 2016 & 2017, will qualify for the 2019 RWC.

Fiji and Tonga qualify for the RWC 2019.
Due to the qualification format for the 2019 RWC, Japan, Canada & USA did not take part in the competition. The three Pacific Island teams will play each other once. The top two teams, on aggregate over 2016 & 2017, will qualify for the 2019 RWC.

In 2015, further changes were made. Due to the Rugby World Cup the tournament was held later, in July and August, and teams played each team in the opposing pool. Following these three games, teams will play off on the basis of their overall table position.
