The Super Rugby Trans Tasman competition was to follow the domestic Super competitions in both New Zealand and Australia. Each team from the two countries would play the teams from the other country once. The top 2 teams would then play a final. |
A couple of the law variations used in the Super Rugby competitions of both countries were used in this competition.
A goal line drop-out will occur when an attacking player carrying the ball is held up in the in-goal or knocks the ball on in the in-goal area, or when an attacking kick, other than a penalty or drop goal attempt, is grounded by the defending team in their in-goal area.
Players who receive a red card can be replaced with another player 20 minutes after they are sent from the field. The sent-off player cannot to return to the field and will face Sanzaar’s existing judicial process. There is no change to the yellow card sanction.

Round 3, 4 & 5 matches involving the Melbourne Rebels were moved to Sydney after COVID-19 issues in Melbourne meant the team could not travel to New Zealand.
